The CO2Sense Environment Voucher Scheme – up to 50% funding available

The CO2Sense Environment Voucher Scheme provides funding and advice for small and medium-sized businesses in Yorkshire and the Humber to help them save money, resources and carbon by changing how they use energy, water and waste.

The scheme provides the following:

  •  Two days of free advice from an expert environmental consultant.
  •   Up to £8,000 in grant funding for new equipment that will reduce energy, water and waste; or consultancy to help SMEs cut costs and carbon emissions. Read more of this post

Funding boost for rural broadband scheme

A SCHEME to give rural North Yorkshire businesses access to high-speed broadband is to receive £16.4m from the Government.

The funding for the Connecting North Yorkshire project has been agreed with Broadband Delivery UK, the Government organisation responsible for spreading broadband access.

TheBusinessDesk.com revealed earlier this year that North Yorkshire County Council’s broadband firm NYnet had asked the European Regional Development Fund for money that could eventually see £30m being invested in a new network.

Yorkshire training company expands activities into Egypt

Tyro has secured generous support from the British Council’s Skills for Employability Project* to work with the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI) in Cairo.

The aim is to support EBI and their training team in providing relevant and appropriate skills training programmes for staff in the financial services and other sectors in Egypt and potentially other countries.

David Llewellyn, Tyro’s Director of International Projects who met with EBI colleagues during a recent development visit to Cairo leads Tyro’s team on this programme, and says: ”EBI already have a comprehensive range of general programmes which are well structured and provide course delegates with a very good general understanding of the topics. We aim to build on this platform using Tyro’s expertise in providing employer-focussed programmes for staff at different levels of experience and seniority, and, importantly, help to develop programmes which provide real practical applications relevant to the workplace”. Tyro will support EBI trainers in developing the programmes and training materials, thereby leaving a lasting legacy through transfer of expertise.

EBI and Tyro will also involve banks, financial institutions and commercial organisations who will identify the key training and development priorities for their staff at the different levels to ensure that the programmes developed are relevant to their needs.

The project lasts until summer 2012 and plans to support over 200 students over the two years.

* The Skills for Employability Project is funded by the British Council, and aims to promote skills development and increase the employability of young people in the Middle and Near East and North Africa by encouraging close links between education and industry. Skipton BID raises commercial prospects for the town

Tyro is working with the Skipton BID (Business Improvement District) team to raise commercial prospects for the town.

Following the success of the first Skipton BID courses in 2010, Tyro are again working with the BID team to implement key training for the town’s businesses who subscribe to the project.

Workshops in design and marketing, emergency aid, food safety, risk assessment, data protection, IT and Sage accounting are being developed for the new year, focusing not only on the benefits for individual businesses, but also the identity and levels of service which are synonymous with Skipton as a Yorkshire market town.

Results give confidence to employers

Recent success rates for Train to Gain and Apprenticeships have demonstrated why employers have confidence in Tyro and Craven College to deliver their work based qualifications

- our current success rates for Apprenticships are 87.1% against a national average of 71.1%.

- while our current success rates for Train to Gain are 91.5% against national average of 83.4%

Training is recognised as a key driver supporting business success and development, so it is important to choose delivery partners in whom you have confidence.
